Eleanor Clarke National Director (South) Rainbows GB
I've
long been a believer in the ability of art to transform people's lives, but now
I've had the pleasure of seeing it work in practice.
As
soon as I told the silkscreen artist @KateGibbPrint about the Rainbows fundraising
project, she sprang into action to help.
Not
only did Kate produce an original work (of which only four were produced) to be
claimed by people making pledges of £275 or more, but she quickly spread the
word to other artists she knows.
Within
days, the illustrator and designer @JammesBrownLTD had offered to produce an
original abstract, followed swiftly by the artist Rob Lowe @Supermundane (Supermundane)
promising to make unique metal badges for the fundraising project. All of them
produced their works for free.
We'd
been told by Aviva that being creative about the rewards we offer in exchange
for pledges would help to generate interest in what we were doing and
contribute to the excitement around our efforts.
They
weren't wrong. Less than a week after the Rainbows crowdfunding was
launched, Kate’s prints had sold out – helping to raise more than £1,000 in aid
of our cause.
James’s
abstracts, for pledges of £50 or more, generated a similar excitement and 14 of
them were snapped up, bringing in a further £700 or more.
No
fewer than 65 of Rob’s marvellous badges (pledges of £10 or more) were also
claimed, raising at least another £650.
Our
hearty thanks go out to all three of them. Thanks to these artists – who
between them brought in at least £2,350 – the lives of children who are
battling to deal with bereavement and significant loss will be transformed,
literally for good.
